The MSW curriculum is divided into two levels: Foundation and Concentration courses.
If you are an advanced student, the only course you are required to take at the foundation level is 7952. There is a test out option for this course, but it must be replaced with another advanced research course approved by the school..

In addition to foundation and concentration courses, regular standing MSW students will take three elective courses (9 credit hours) in the program and advanced standing MSW students will take two elective courses (6 credit hours). Consultation with your advisor is important to design a plan of study that fits your educational needs. Elective options will vary each semester.

The MSW Program Director will review the syllabus and decide if it is acceptable for transfer credit. We encourage you to submit your requests for transfer as early as possible. You may submit syllabi for transfer credit review anytime. If you submit your materials prior to orientation, a decision may be ready by the time you begin the MSW program.
Up to eight transfer credits are allowed and may be applied to either the MPH or MSW program individually or divided between the two programs per your advisor and program director’s decision. In accordance with CSWE accreditation standards, the MU SSW does not grant social work course credit for life or work experience at the MSW level.
