  • 11/06/07: AmeriCorps Volunteer - one Outreach Manager and one Environmental Educator. - Education Center at Savannas Perserve State Park, Florida Park Service.

Hello! I am Director of the Education Center at Savannas Preserve State Park and I am currently recruiting for two great workers through the Florida Park Service AmeriCorps Program. I received your information from AmeriCorps.gov's list of colleges that match AmeriCorps grants. For next year's AmeriCorps program, we are looking to fill one Volunteer Outreach Manager position and one Environmental Educator position, both of which are excellent opportunities for anyone interested in the environment, community service, or education.

All positions are full-time, 1700 hours, starting in early January and lasting until November. Members receive diverse training throughout the year, a modest living allowance of $10,900.00, payable in 11 equal, monthly installments, and upon completion of service, and an Education Award of $4,725.00 that can be used for tuition or to help repay student loans. Periodically, throughout the year, you may be placed with the two AmeriCorps Teams to assist with statewide special events and disaster relief, if required. As an AmeriCorps Member you will have the opportunity to travel and make a considerable difference either recruiting, leading, and working with volunteers or developing and leading educational programs for the community.

Most importantly, at Savannas Preserve State Park members will join a fantastic team of enthusiastic, energetic park employees and volunteers that work to make our Education Center one of the top ten in the country for two years running! Members will have the freedom to pursue many independent and creative projects, and the support and guidance to learn a great deal. They will work on important educational projects that help connect poorly-performing schools with the environment. Nowhere else in the AmeriCorps program will members have so much responsibility or so much freedom. I speak from experience - I started as an AmeriCorps Member here last year and was hired on partway through my term. This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone interested in a career in biology, ecology, education, or a number of other fields.
