Council of
Student Social Workers
CSSW is an organization devoted
to the unique interests of MU social work students. Membership provides
opportunities for support, collaboration, leadership, and service.
CSSW hosts many activities that
are beneficial for students. Guest speakers from various fields
provide insights into their areas. Events are planned each semester
to enhance communications between students and faculty. Members
also work to better the community with such activities as the United
Way Day of Caring and the Voluntary Action Center’s Holiday
Food and Gift Drive. CSSW helps inform local youth about the profession
and assists with various School-sponsored functions.
Membership is open to all undergraduate
and graduate students in the School. A membership fee of $2.50 each
semester helps to fund events and activities. Contact the Student
Services Coordinator for more information.

Phi Alph Honor Society is a national honor society
for students seeking social work degrees. Its purpose is to create
close bonds among social work students, promote humanitarian goals
and ideas, foster high standards of scholarship, and aid in preparedness
for professional social work roles.
Students are invited to join Phi Alpha based on their
eligibility. Undergraduate students must have junior-standing in
the School, have completed 9 hours of required social work classes
with a GPA of 3.5, and have achieved an overall GPA of 3.0 to be
eligible. Graduate students must have completed a minimum of one
term of course work, have full-time status (or the entire first-year
of course work if part-time), and have achieved a GPA of 3.75 to
be eligible.
A lifelong commitment to excellence, recognition
for academic excellence, camaraderie, and support are natural outcomes
of Phi Alpha membership. An initiation fee of $8.00 is required
by the National Society, and a $32.00 fee is required by the local
chapter to support the Phi Alpha Honor Society gold medallion presented
to all eligible members at graduation. Contact the Student
Services Coordinator for more information.

MU Christian Social Work Students
Support the integration of Christian faith and professional
social work education and practice in the lives of its members,
influencing the profession and church, promoting love and justice
in social service and social reform.
Members of MU CSWS work to build community among students
in the School of Social Work. An important aspect of the group is
the desire for everyone to feel comfortable participating and discussing
topics of faith and practice at meetings. Everyone includes
all worldviews. Activities provide opportunities for networking
with practicing social workers and serving the School and community.

MAA True Tigers and the
SSW Alumni Organization
The Mizzou Alumni Association (MAA) proudly supports
the best interests and traditions of Missouri’s flagship university.
Lifelong relationships are the foundation of its support. These
relationships are enhanced through advocacy, communication, and
volunteerism.
A division of the MAA, the SSW Alumni Organization
(SSWAO) supports the School and actively assists in furthering its
mission of develolping leadership for social and economic justice.
Membership dues help support student scholarships, newsletters,
awards, and activities. Representatives from each student body serve
on the SSWAO Board of Directors.
Students are encouraged to join
the MAA as True Tigers and begin their lifelong relationships
with MU. MAA membership automatically entitles students to membership
in the SSWAO. True Tigers receive many benefits including opportunities
to develop relationships with alumni. In addition, the Mizzou Alumni
Association Student Board (AASB) directs True Tiger activities and
offers many leadership experiences.
Students receive a discount for annual membership
for just $20.00 per year (half the regular rate). This comes with
a free membership kit (worth $20.00 alone) as well as numerous other
benefits. These dues directly benefit the School and its mission.
