As alumni of the MU School of Social Work, I'm sure
you remember the fear of the unknown when you began your degree
and the many challenges you faced as a student. We think it's essential
to provide a way to link our current students with our past students
to facilitate the exchange of wisdom and support that is so crucial
to these future professionals.
We also visit with undecided students each semester who are trying
to determine whether a specific area of social work is right for
them. Tapping into our own alumni is the best way we know of to
convince an inquiring student of the many benefits of a social work
career.
As an alumnus, you can agree to serve as a mentor for current students
simply by filling out the Spotlight on Alumni form with information
about your area of practice and your e-mail address. From our website,
students can then "click" on an area of interest and contact
you by e-mail with specific questions. To be a mentor in this way,
you simply agree to allow us to post your e-mail address for a set
amount of time on our website. We do not imagine that mentors will
be deluged with e-mails, rather, just a few e-mails per month would
seem likely. It is easy for us to remove your e-mail at any time
if you decide you can no longer serve as a mentor.
"Spotlight on Alumni" is a bi-weekly article
that has been created for students and alumni to learn about graduates
of our programs.
