SSWR 14th Annual Conference: Jan. 14-17, 2010

The Society for Social Work Research (SSWR) is now accepting registration for their 14th annual conference, Social Work Research: A World of Possiblities in San Francisco, CA on Jan. 14-17, 2010. The SSWR Annual Conference offers a scientific program that reflects a broad range of research interests, from workshops on the latest quantitative and qualitative research methodologies to symposia featuring studies in child welfare, aging, mental health, welfare reform, substance abuse, and HIV/AIDS. Participant registration includes all conference materials, refreshment breaks, admission to the Welcome to SSWR in San Francisco Reception on Wednesday, Opening General Session and Welcome Reception on Thursday, the President’s Reception on Friday as well as the reception on Saturday and the membership breakfast and meeting on Sunday. Participant registration also includes entry to exhibits, lectures, papers, symposia, and workshops. Those registered before December 4, 2009 will receive the early registration rate. Online Grantsmanship Courses

Beginning this spring, the University of Missouri Graduate School will offer the first of four ONLINE courses in grantsmanship.
Register soon for the first course: Grant Writing I (begins Jan. 19, 2010). Additional courses will include: Grant Writing II, Sponsor Relationships and Award Management. Registration details will be available soon. Visit

CEUs and Alumni Reception

Dr. Judith Davenport, Professor Emerita at the University of Missouri, will present on “Practicing Social Work in the Hills, Hollows and Hinterlands” on Thursday, November 19, 2009 at the SEMO Alliance for Disability Independence (SADI), 1913 Rusmar, Cape Girardeau, MO, 573-651-6464. This interactive presentation will include historical differences between rural and urban places, people and cultures (with geographic differences); and joys and frustrations of rural practice, including new trends such as technology, immigration, and economic factors. There is no charge to attend this event, but an RSVP is required. Contact Deborah Simmons at (573) 882-4447 before November 11, 2009. Continuing education units are available for $10.
