Online MSW Program

The Master of Social Work Online Program (MSW) prepares graduates for leadership in professional social work practice within the area of Clinical Practice. The graduate curriculum provides an educational experience that is rigorous, comprehensive and progressive, preparing graduates for a range of advanced career opportunities.

Developed in response to the needs of rural communities for advanced social work education opportunities and for people whose work and/or other personal obligations prevent attending classes on campus, the Online Program provides a CSWE-accredited MSW program on a 100% online basis. Currently, the online program is available to residents of Missouri and states that are contiguous to Missouri. The program is asynchronous and takes advantage of the latest advances in instructional technology. However, while classes are asynchronous, students have the opportunity to engage in role plays and will acquire interaction skills via synchronous, web conferencing technologies. The online program is conducted on a part-time basis over a period of three to four years so students can continue working while obtaining the MSW degree.

Regular Standing Part-Time students attend 2 classes per semester over a period of three years (9 semesters). Advanced Standing Part-Time Students begin in the Fall and attend 2 classes per semester over a period of 2 years (6 semesters). Typically, two courses are offered each semester. Students must have access to independent computer resources in order to complete the required online coursework. See technology requirements.

Our online program uses a cohort model of education. Students take most of the coursework together. Regular standing MSW students begin in Fall Semester (August of even numbered years). Advanced Standing students join the Regular standing students in Fall Semester of the following year (August of odd numbered years).
